John Abraham Bay
4th Great Grandfather, 1781 - 1840
John Abraham Bay was born in 1781 to Abraham Bay and Elizabeth Coxon. He was baptised at Saint Mathews Church, Bethnal Green, London. The illustration above is of the church.
John Abraham was a silk weaver. To find out more about the silk industry click here.
He married Mary Gladwin at Prestbury Parish Church,Cheshire in 1799. The couple had 5 children.
The marriage record states that he was a silk weaver.
John Abraham was a Huguenot. Bethnal Green and Spitalfields housed a large influx of Huguenots, many of whom worked as silk weavers. To find out more about this area click here.
Whilst I can find no more information about John Abraham, it is reasonable to assume that he also worked in the silk industry and that he moved to Macclesfield for employment. Macclesfield was home to a growing silk industry with large silk mills.
John Abraham died, aged 59, and was buried at Macclesfield.
